Well, follow these rules for a fun game...

Here's my creation:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SamWLqFxY5I/AAAAAAAAGy4/tqKVOOjLk58/s400/homemadelpcover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307938762854065042" />1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Add your own in the comments

Here's the second one I made. I guess you can't always get a good picture ... though the band name and title are kinda cool on this ... it still don't make up for the shiteous picture ...LOL

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/Sam8yaGeAwI/AAAAAAAAGzI/IcOPY8p0Cbc/s400/homemadelpcover2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307981210018775810" />Spyder ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/05856347291609181595noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956581413507517206.post-42666040678053342172009-02-28T13:25:00.009-05:002009-02-28T14:22:47.696-05:00Morrissey latest album available on vinyl and "vinyl"The recent release from Morrissey, former singer of The Smiths, entitled "Year Of Refusal" is not only available on vinyl LP, but the CD is made to appear like a vinyl record.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 392px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SamNG0RkL0I/AAAAAAAAGyg/1bad36eR0SY/s400/morrisseycd.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307928784083889986" />Not since his time with The Smiths have I really enjoyed so much any of Morrissey's work. This album is brilliant and deserves a listen. Pick it up now on Attack Records/Lost Highway.

It was the last album produced by the young legendary punk/alt-rock producer Jerry Finn, who died at the age of 39, shortly after finishing this album, from a cerebral hemorrhage.

The album features:
Jeff Beck (guitar legend)
Mark Isham (jazz trumpeter legend famed for his movie scores and new age albums)
Boz Boorer (guitarist from 80's new wave rockabilly group The Polecats)
Jesse Tobias (guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993)
Matt Walker (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins, Filter and Garbage)
Chrissie Hynde (lead singer of The Pretenders)*

* the track Chrissie Hynde is on, "Shame Is the Name" is only available on the iTunes version and not on the CD or vinyl.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 301px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SamJpBRnPrI/AAAAAAAAGyY/uDqCtPw33Uw/s400/YearsOfRefusal.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307924973642792626" />

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B001NPUGX2&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B001NHES3Y&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B001PK477Q&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Spyder ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/05856347291609181595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956581413507517206.post-69924387697410367582009-02-17T22:38:00.004-05:002009-02-17T22:45:37.823-05:00Daptone Records robbed... pending Rod Stewart session in jeopardy<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 118px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SZuDJgAZYTI/AAAAAAAAGxs/GQdjZXn-kA8/s200/daptonelogo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303977185392550194" />From Brooklyn Vegan comes the dismaying news that retro-soul titans Daptone Records suffered a traumatic break-in over the weekend at their Bushwick headquarters, leading to a tremendously heartbreaking list of lost (and uninsured) equipment we too will reprint below, lest there be any assistance/info you can provide. (Contact 'em at 718-366-3849 or info@daptonerecords.com, though obviously they might be tough to reach for a spell.) Note cofounder Gabriel Roth's remarkable aside that "We have a session scheduled for Friday to lay down some music for (I know this sounds surreal) Rod Stewart," which is obviously now fraught with peril... said session must go down. That sounds awesome. Roth's letter, after the picture of their studio:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 372px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SZuDW8jJnfI/AAAAAAAAGx8/OQeXEfWxxno/s400/daptonestudios.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303977416392809970" />Friends and associates,

As you may have heard through the grapevine by now, Daptone was broken into last night. Unfortunately, there was a lot of equipment (mics, pre-amps, monitors, turntables, guitars, amps, computers, etc.) stolen and damaged. It is going to take us a while to go through everything and take full stock of what was stolen, and we are not supposed to touch anything until the cops come back to collect fingerprints so we can only guess what's missing from some mic drawers and cabinets.
And, no, we did not have insurance. We had been shopping around with different companies earlier this month but had not signed a check, so nothing was insured. We are working on replacing the gate in front, installing an alarm system, and getting insurance, but it is President's day so it's not going as quickly as we would have liked.
Nydia's computer was stolen (which wasn't backed up) and the modems/ phone system was ripped out, so we'll be relatively out of commission for a few days.

I would like to ask for everyone's help first in keeping an eye out for all of our stuff showing up on ebay/craigslist/local music shops, and secondly (and more realistically) keeping an eye out for good deals on headphones, mics, pre-amps, etc. I could really use a heads up on any kind of studio package for sale or studio equipment to be possibly bought or borrowed as soon as possible. We have a session scheduled for Friday to lay down some music for (I know this sounds
surreal) Rod Stewart, and I'm going to have to get the studio running by then. I know I'm going to need to find headphones, cables, mics, and pre-amps by then. I'm not sure what else yet.

List of gear and Gabriel Roth's letter continued below...

FROM GABRIEL ROTH

Upon first glance we are definitely missing:
Fender Super Guitar Amp in case
Fender Deluxe Guitar Amp
A whole bunch of headphones and wires
Nydia's HP laptop computer
One Desktop MacIntosh Computer
One Purple Audio API style lunchbox with four Purple Audio Biz mic pre-amps
2 Yamaha NS10 monitors
Vintage Harmony Rocket Guitar
One steel string acoustic guitar
Martin Tenor sax in a gig bag
Technics 1200 turntable
Ion USB turntable
Teac Receiver/stereo amp
Sony dual deck CD burner/player
All of our modem/phone system stuff was ripped out and taken.
A whole bunch of condensor and dynamic microphones (I still need to figure out exactly what's missing) The power supply for my Trident console was tossed and the board was moved (probably not gently) so the status of that is still questionable.
A baldwin organ was tossed and is probably broken.
Lacie External hard drive

Over the next few days, as we sort out the rubble, we are going to figure out what else we lost.

We are putting in a roll down front gate, alarm system, and finally getting our insurance happening this week. We are also going to hire a security guard to watch the house for tonight as the cops and alarm guy seemed pretty confident that they will be back with a truck now that they've seen what's in here.

Thanks for keeping eyes open for us. AND PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP US.

Thankfully, we all still have our health, ambition, tape machines, and sense of humor in tact. You can slow us down, but you can't stop us. Sleep well knowing we here at Daptone will continue to...

Keep putting Soul up,

Gabriel Roth

P.S. On a lighter note, it seems like the burglars did drop a few items in order to lift Alex's old safe out of here, which was VERY heavy, VERY unwieldy, and also VERY EMPTY!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SZuDOnVkwbI/AAAAAAAAGx0/iEDu4PLCyGU/s400/daptonesharonvideoshoot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303977273259770290" />
[Village Voice]Spyder ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/05856347291609181595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956581413507517206.post-69624369349844453732009-02-17T14:25:00.002-05:002009-02-17T14:26:26.967-05:00Ol Skool Skratchin<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 337px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QvSi3BrEMBA/SZsPMHAg0WI/AAAAAAAAGxk/xRLy1eL-Azg/s400/olskoolscratchin.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303849686872936802" />Spyder ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/05856347291609181595noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956581413507517206.post-55440721203801000812009-02-12T13:22:00.004-05:002009-02-12T13:44:01.302-05:00hot new MOODYMANN record coming soon

Moody (Moodymann a/k/a Kenny Dixon, Jr.)
Anotha Black Sunday [EP]

VERY LIMITED !! You can see how just about anyone would get these two confused, right? I mean, they're basically the same person.

Well, apparently the world isn't big enough for two Santogolds. And now the Santogold you've heard of has changed her stage name. According to a press release, Santi White is now Santigold. She already has a new MySpace page that reflects the change, and the old one has already been taken down. As of right now, her website is still up. But according to her publicist, that her website will soon reflect the change, as will all future pressings of her albums and singles.

The Brooklyn Santogold hasn't yet revealed why she's changed her name, but connect the dots la la la. Last year, Stereogum reported that Santo Rigatuso, who had been calling himself Santo Gold since 1983, had filed a lawsuit against Santogold and her record labels, Downtown Music and Lizard King Records, for the use of the name. On his website, the Baltimore Santo Gold also reports that he's in the process of recording an album called I Am the Real Santo Gold, and he's already posted the title track on YouTube. Sample lyrics: "I don't like my name being stoled / Spent millions on my name, Santo Gold." So there you go. He's spent millions on his name.

The newly christened Santigold, meanwhile, has a few shows coming up:

03-27 Miami, FL - Ultra Music Festival
03-28 Mammoth, CA - Roxy's Chicken Jam
06-12 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Festival

[Pitchfork Media]

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B0014DC046&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B001CVCBVC&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=spysranthi-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B001ONP3QS&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=BBBBBB&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Spyder ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/05856347291609181595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2956581413507517206.post-86946552522053139762009-02-11T13:37:00.001-05:002009-02-11T13:37:06.979-05:00TODAY'S FLASHBACK VIDEO - The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

I played this record to death in the mid-80's at club gigs and on radio. He was 52.

The Cramps formed in 1976 and were part of the now legendary downtown New York punk scene. Their line-up shifted over the years but always included Lux and his wife, Poison Ivy. The band's rockabilly infused punk has been credited as an influence by bands like the White Stripes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Interior, whose real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser, was born October 21, 1946 in Ohio. The personal, narrative singles "Alive," "Jeremy," and "Even Flow" catapulted the emerging band into the 10-million-plus-sales numbers.

This Super Deluxe Collector's Edition includes the 2CD Legacy Edition with remastered & remixed tracks; DVD including Pearl Jam's MTV unplugged performance; 2LPs which include remastered and remixed tracks; plus a 2 LP gatefold of "Drop In The Park," cassette of original demos, a replica of Eddie's notebook and repro tickets & tour poster.

Remixes:
“The band loved the original mix of Ten, but were also interested in what it would sound like if I were to deconstruct and remix it,” says producer Brendan O’Brien. “The original Ten sound is what millions of people bought, dug and loved, so I was initially hesitant to mess around with that. After years of persistent nudging from the band, I was able to wrap my head around the idea of offering it as a companion piece to the original – giving a fresh take on it, a more direct sound.”

Ten Redesign:
Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, who served as the art director for the original Ten packaging, reprised his role for the reissues collaborating with designer, Andy Fischer, of Cameron Crowe’s Vinyl Films (Into the Wild soundtrack LP, Vanilla Sky soundtrack LP, Harold and Maude anniversary edition soundtrack LP).

"The goal was to assemble the ultimate fan-piece,” explains Fischer. “Something Pearl Jam lovers could pore over as they experience an indelible record all over again, in an entirely new way."

“The original concept was about really being together as a group and entering into the world of music as a true band...a sort of all-for-one deal,” says Jeff Ament. “There were some elements of the original Ten artwork that didn't turn out the way we had hoped, due to time constraints. With this reissue, we’ve been able to take our time and invest resources into making the design the way we had originally intended.”

Replica of Pearl Jam 3-Song Demo Cassette:
In the process of digging through his archives for this project, Ament came across an old cassette marked “Momma-Son” – the fabled original Pearl Jam demo tape featuring the first recorded versions of “Alive,” “Once” and “Footsteps.” Ament and guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready had recorded instrumental tracks of these songs to help solicit a singer for their newly formed band. Mutual friend - and then Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer - Jack Irons suggested they send the tape down to San Diego surfer and little-known singer Eddie Vedder.

Completely inspired by what he heard from these musicians that he then only knew by name, Vedder quickly wrote lyrics, put these vocals to the music tracks and shipped the tape back to Seattle. Upon hearing how Vedder had transformed the songs, Ament, Gossard and McCready asked him to come up to Seattle so they could meet and have an official “tryout” together. Shortly thereafter, Pearl Jam was born. A replica of the “Momma-Son” cassette is included in this Super Deluxe Edition of Ten.

Features:
• Super Deluxe Collector's Edition Box Set
• 180g Vinyl
• Linen covered, slip-cased Clamshell Box
• Double LP Including remastered & remixed tracks
• Double LP Gatefold of Drop In the Park
• 2CD Legacy Edition with remastered & remixed tracks
• DVD including Pearl Jam's MTV unplugged performance
• Cassette of original demos
• Replica of Eddie's notebook
• Repro tickets
• Tour poster

Selections:
CD 1:Digitally remastered (original mix)
1. In 1979, legendary producer John Hammond convened a new commission to update the list for the hipper Carter administration. "They felt they needed to redress some of the oversights that might have taken place the first time around," says Boston music critic and author Bob Blumenthal, who was put in charge of adding 200 rock records to the library.

At the commission's first meeting, Blumenthal brought up Randy Newman's thorny dissection of Southern culture, Good Old Boys, to determine what restrictions the panel might face. "That was exhibit A," Blumenthal says. "And I was told, 'Oh, the president loves that album! Go ahead!' " So Blumenthal and his advisers — including Paul Nelson, then Rolling Stone's reviews editor — compiled a list to reflect "diversity in what was going on in popular music." They picked the Kinks' Arthur for its "theme of empire," and Blumenthal snuck in favorites like David Bowie's Hunky Dory.

On January 13th, 1981, the LPs — each in a sleeve with a presidential seal — were presented to Jimmy Carter at a White House ceremony. But the collection — placed in a hallway near the third-floor listening room, complete with a sound system — didn't remain upstairs long. When Ronald Reagan took office that year, the LPs were moved to the basement. Depending on the source, the reason was Nancy Reagan's distaste for shelves of vinyl, or the edgy choices themselves. A spokesman for Obama said it was too early to comment on whether the president would revive the library.
