LP Cover Generator fun

Wanna make your own album cover? Well, follow these rules for a fun game...

Here's my creation:

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Add your own in the comments

Here's the second one I made. I guess you can't always get a good picture ... though the band name and title are kinda cool on this ... it still don't make up for the shiteous picture ...LOL

Morrissey latest album available on vinyl and "vinyl"

The recent release from Morrissey, former singer of The Smiths, entitled "Year Of Refusal" is not only available on vinyl LP, but the CD is made to appear like a vinyl record.

Not since his time with The Smiths have I really enjoyed so much any of Morrissey's work. This album is brilliant and deserves a listen. Pick it up now on Attack Records/Lost Highway.

It was the last album produced by the young legendary punk/alt-rock producer Jerry Finn, who died at the age of 39, shortly after finishing this album, from a cerebral hemorrhage.

The album features:
Jeff Beck (guitar legend)
Mark Isham (jazz trumpeter legend famed for his movie scores and new age albums)
Boz Boorer (guitarist from 80's new wave rockabilly group The Polecats)
Jesse Tobias (guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993)
Matt Walker (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins, Filter and Garbage)
Chrissie Hynde (lead singer of The Pretenders)*

* the track Chrissie Hynde is on, "Shame Is the Name" is only available on the iTunes version and not on the CD or vinyl.

Daptone Records robbed... pending Rod Stewart session in jeopardy

From Brooklyn Vegan comes the dismaying news that retro-soul titans Daptone Records suffered a traumatic break-in over the weekend at their Bushwick headquarters, leading to a tremendously heartbreaking list of lost (and uninsured) equipment we too will reprint below, lest there be any assistance/info you can provide. (Contact 'em at 718-366-3849 or info@daptonerecords.com, though obviously they might be tough to reach for a spell.) Note cofounder Gabriel Roth's remarkable aside that "We have a session scheduled for Friday to lay down some music for (I know this sounds surreal) Rod Stewart," which is obviously now fraught with peril... said session must go down. That sounds awesome. Roth's letter, after the picture of their studio:

Friends and associates,

As you may have heard through the grapevine by now, Daptone was broken into last night. Unfortunately, there was a lot of equipment (mics, pre-amps, monitors, turntables, guitars, amps, computers, etc.) stolen and damaged. It is going to take us a while to go through everything and take full stock of what was stolen, and we are not supposed to touch anything until the cops come back to collect fingerprints so we can only guess what's missing from some mic drawers and cabinets.
And, no, we did not have insurance. We had been shopping around with different companies earlier this month but had not signed a check, so nothing was insured. We are working on replacing the gate in front, installing an alarm system, and getting insurance, but it is President's day so it's not going as quickly as we would have liked.
Nydia's computer was stolen (which wasn't backed up) and the modems/ phone system was ripped out, so we'll be relatively out of commission for a few days.

I would like to ask for everyone's help first in keeping an eye out for all of our stuff showing up on ebay/craigslist/local music shops, and secondly (and more realistically) keeping an eye out for good deals on headphones, mics, pre-amps, etc. I could really use a heads up on any kind of studio package for sale or studio equipment to be possibly bought or borrowed as soon as possible. We have a session scheduled for Friday to lay down some music for (I know this sounds
surreal) Rod Stewart, and I'm going to have to get the studio running by then. I know I'm going to need to find headphones, cables, mics, and pre-amps by then. I'm not sure what else yet.

List of gear and Gabriel Roth's letter continued below...

FROM GABRIEL ROTH

Upon first glance we are definitely missing:
Fender Super Guitar Amp in case
Fender Deluxe Guitar Amp
A whole bunch of headphones and wires
Nydia's HP laptop computer
One Desktop MacIntosh Computer
One Purple Audio API style lunchbox with four Purple Audio Biz mic pre-amps
2 Yamaha NS10 monitors
Vintage Harmony Rocket Guitar
One steel string acoustic guitar
Martin Tenor sax in a gig bag
Technics 1200 turntable
Ion USB turntable
Teac Receiver/stereo amp
Sony dual deck CD burner/player
All of our modem/phone system stuff was ripped out and taken.
A whole bunch of condensor and dynamic microphones (I still need to figure out exactly what's missing) The power supply for my Trident console was tossed and the board was moved (probably not gently) so the status of that is still questionable.
A baldwin organ was tossed and is probably broken.
Lacie External hard drive

Over the next few days, as we sort out the rubble, we are going to figure out what else we lost.

We are putting in a roll down front gate, alarm system, and finally getting our insurance happening this week. We are also going to hire a security guard to watch the house for tonight as the cops and alarm guy seemed pretty confident that they will be back with a truck now that they've seen what's in here.

Thanks for keeping eyes open for us. AND PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP US.

Thankfully, we all still have our health, ambition, tape machines, and sense of humor in tact. You can slow us down, but you can't stop us. Sleep well knowing we here at Daptone will continue to...

Keep putting Soul up,

Gabriel Roth

P.S. On a lighter note, it seems like the burglars did drop a few items in order to lift Alex's old safe out of here, which was VERY heavy, VERY unwieldy, and also VERY EMPTY!

Santogold Is Now Santigold

Santogold was Santi White, the Brooklyn-based pop singer who made one of last year's best albums and who is just now starting to pop up on A-list rap songs. Santo Gold, on the other hand, is Santo Rigatuso, the Baltimore-based jeweler/filmmaker/huckster who made this infomercial and the no-budget 1985 aliens-fighting-wrestlers movie Blood Circus. You can see how just about anyone would get these two confused, right? I mean, they're basically the same person.

Well, apparently the world isn't big enough for two Santogolds. And now the Santogold you've heard of has changed her stage name. According to a press release, Santi White is now Santigold. She already has a new MySpace page that reflects the change, and the old one has already been taken down. As of right now, her website is still up. But according to her publicist, that her website will soon reflect the change, as will all future pressings of her albums and singles.

The Brooklyn Santogold hasn't yet revealed why she's changed her name, but connect the dots la la la. Last year, Stereogum reported that Santo Rigatuso, who had been calling himself Santo Gold since 1983, had filed a lawsuit against Santogold and her record labels, Downtown Music and Lizard King Records, for the use of the name. On his website, the Baltimore Santo Gold also reports that he's in the process of recording an album called I Am the Real Santo Gold, and he's already posted the title track on YouTube. Sample lyrics: "I don't like my name being stoled / Spent millions on my name, Santo Gold." So there you go. He's spent millions on his name.

The newly christened Santigold, meanwhile, has a few shows coming up:

03-27 Miami, FL - Ultra Music Festival
03-28 Mammoth, CA - Roxy's Chicken Jam
06-12 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Festival

I played this record to death in the mid-80's at club gigs and on radio. Love it.

MADONNALIFE.COM web domain for sale

If anyone is interested in purchasing the web domain, MADONNALIFE.COM, please let me know. I bought this domain a couple of years ago and was using it to post official Madonna U.S. release information, but I've not updated the site in about a year and have lost interest in keeping it going.
