The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is looking to set up a system where passengers get a text message barcode to their cellphones in which passengers can use to check-in for their flights. The group aims to shift entirely to bar code boarding passes by 2010. Among the few airlines that now offer mobile check-in services are Air Canada, Air Berlin and Spanair.
This measure is not only meant to be a convenience for passengers, but a for means saving the airlines $500 Million in paper tickets.
