Adele's Chasing Pavements single debuts at #2 on UK Charts, plus video for Hometown Glory

Hotly-tipped soul singer Adele has narrowly missed out on a number one single after being held off by Basshunter's Now You're Gone.

Chasing Pavements by Adele debuted at number two in the singles chart, leaving the English version of the Swedish dance track at the top for the second week running.

But the second-place raises expectations that 2008 will be Adele's breakthrough year, with her eagerly-awaited debut album 19 out next week.

With no other new entries, Britney Spears dropped down a place to three with Piece of Me, while Lupe Fiasco's Superstar and Don't Stop the Music by Rihanna completed the top five.

There were also no entries in the top ten selling albums of the week, although Scouting for Girls' self-titled record rose three to knock This is the Life by Amy Macdonald off top spot.
