The first DJ rhythm game announced: Scratch: The Ultimate DJ

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is described as a "fast paced rhythm game," combining free-form DJ tricks with "songs from the biggest names in Hip Hop." It features creative input and music from Quincy Jones III, a respected producer for artists such as Tupac Shakur, LL Cool J, and Ice Cube.

"Featuring game-play similar to top-selling rhythm games, Scratch players use a realistic turn-table controller, the Scratch Deck, created by Numark, to manipulate music tracks in real-time," Genius said in a statement. "Players can choose from a diverse array of DJ personalities to make their way from garage DJ to scratch-master of the hottest nightclubs."

The game is scheduled for release on unspecified consoles next spring.

In February, Activision, makers of Guitar Hero, trademarked the name DJ Hero. Last month, sources close to Kotaku said the game would revolve around a virtual record as opposed to the cascading notes found in Guitar Hero and Rock Band. A release date has not been announced.
