Activist Ralph Nader sues DNC

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Activist and two-time presidential candidate Ralph Nader has sued the Democratic National Committee, saying it tried to violate his constitutional rights.

Nader, who ran for president in 2000 and 2004, accused the DNC of conspiring to violate his constitutional rights to run for president by filing ballot challenges and other actions to keep him off the ballot in 2004, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

In his lawsuit filed in Washington, Nader argued that the challenges cost thousands of dollars and made it difficult for him to run.

Democratic party leaders expressed frustration with Nader after the 2000 election, saying they thought he siphoned potential votes that could have helped Al Gore win the White House.

Looking ahead, Nader said he would decide by the end of the year whether he would run again in 2008.
