Winehouse comeback 'sensational'
Amy Winehouse's new material is sounding "sensational", according to the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group, Lucian Grange
He believes the troubled singer will make a strong comeback with her new album, the follow-up to Back To Black.
"What I've heard has been sensational," he said, speaking at the Music Industry Trust Awards in London.
Grange was honoured with the Music Industry Trust Award, recognising 30 years in the music business.
The Award was established in 1991 and was awarded at a charity event supporting the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the Brit School, for his contribution to the industry.

"I've heard some demos," Grange explained to BBC 6 Music, "and I've heard some simple acoustic songs that she's played me in my office on acoustic guitar."
As well as overseeing the careers of The Police, Scissor Sisters, Take That and Mika, the music mogul also helped to sign Winehouse.
He said he has absolute faith in her return to form, saying: "Of course, because I'm an optimist and I believe in her.
"I believe in her as a person and I certainly believe in her as an artist and that's what I hope for."
Winehouse is currently working on a new studio album, the first since 2006.
The venue was packed out to see the star, who was meant to be taking part in a DJ-battle against DJ Bioux but actually just swayed behind the decks to 60s tunes while another DJ spinned tunes for her.
Anna, who was watching, said: "It was a really good atmosphere but she didn't get on the decks at all.
"It was just the other guy. He was good, so good but Amy didn't start DJing at all.
"It was a really good environment though and although Amy wasn't DJing, her being there gave a point to the night so it was really good. I'd go back."
Amy didn't look happy throughout the night but she did remind the crowd of her loyalty to her husband by wearing a heart-shaped badge in her hair with the name Blake on display.
Blake Fielder-Civil faces up to five years in jail after pleading guilty to GBH and interfering in a police case.
He's sentenced on 21 July.
She was also surrounded by people taking photos of her.

Some fans felt sorry for her. One said: "I thought she was fantastic but it's just a bit sad that Amy was crowded by all the photographers."
Amy did seem to pick the music though with funky 60s tunes stirring up the crowd, tunes that were meant to have influenced her own music.
Some fans were expecting more of her though.
Another fan said: "She's OK but we thought she was going to sing but she didn't sing.
"She DJd, which wasn't really what we expected but it was alright."
Towards the end of the night the crowd danced along to tracks including The Cure's 'Love Cats', Dexys Midnight Runners' 'Geno', The Supremes' 'You Can't Hurry Love' and The Specials' 'A Message To You Rudy'.
The pair stopped DJing just before 1.15am and hugged while the crowd cheered and chanted for "one more".
The duo then played one final track, Desmond Dekker's 'You Can Get It If you Really Want', before Winehouse's two minders cleared a path and the singer headed backstage.

Winehouse is set to have a DJ battle with DJ Bioux during the evening. She is expected to play a selection of songs that have influenced her own musical output so far.
Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is due to be sentenced in London for perverting the course of justice on the same day as the event. He is currently incarcerated in Pentonville Prison.
Tickets for the Monarch bash will be available on the door.

Amy Winehouse dolls herself up just prior to her satellite performance tonight on the Grammy Awards and gets a vist from the tooth fairy.
The 24 year old who is up for 6 Grammy Awards tonight, including Best Album, Best Song, Best Record and Best New Artist, took a break from rehab to visit her dentist to fill the gap in her mouth.
Rehab seems to be doing a great job to her and she is looking quite good here outside her dentist office and appears to be in good spirits.
Amy made two visits to the dentist this week with her dad Mitch, but kept up her commitment to continue her ongoing drug rehabilitation treatment at the Capio Nightingale rehab clinic.
Also, this weekend, Amy's favorite ale house in Cambden Market, the Hawley Arms pub burnt down. The pub plans on rebuilding and reopening.
Amy was recently denied a visa to enter the United States to perform at this year's Grammy due to a recent arrest and a scandalous video that recently surfaced showing Amy puffing away on a crack pipe and talking about popping pills. But a last minute turn of events took place and Amy was granted her visa, but has chosen now to remain in the UK for her rehab treatment and will give a live sattelite performance for tonight's event.
Amy Winehouse will not be on hand for the Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 10) in Los Angeles, after her visa application to enter the United States was rejected by the American Embassy in London.
Winehouse, who is up for six awards, has been an undisclosed rehab clinic for the past two weeks to deal with drug problems. She had previously revealed plans to attend the Grammys.
"Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery," reads a statement from her U.K.-based publicist.
"There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future," the statement continues.
Although Winehouse won't be at the Grammys in person, any Grammy wins will surely boost sales for her breakthrough album "Back to Black," which has shifted 1.5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Amy Winehouse is planning to record an album of Christmas and Hanukkah songs, according to her producer, Mark Ronson.
Ronson and Winehouse both have Jewish roots and are both keen to express this in song.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Ronson said: “We're talking about making a holiday record, with Christmas songs on one side and Hanukkah songs on the other.
“She's got songs called ‘Kosher Kisses’ and ‘Alone Under the Mistletoe’.
“She was kind of messing around, but I was like, ‘You have all these amazing records to play for Christmas, like Motown and Carla Thomas and the Charlie Brown Christmas, and unfortunately, us Jews have nothing that cool to listen to. So we should do something.
“She's writing songs and we talked about getting a studio. I have to finish a few other things first, but I imagine we'll go into the studio this year.”
C.I.M.S. is the Coalition of Independent Music Stores in the U.S. who puts out a weekly sales chart based on the Soundscan results from their member stores and to me and many industry people, this is a MUCH more definitive sampling of ACTUAL physical sales in music in the U.S. I personally don't agree and believe in Billboard standards and practices, nor do I trust Soundscan results in the big box/chain stores. Indie retail stores cater to the TRUE music lover.

note: Don VanCleave, President of C.I.M.S., did note that if the Plant/Krauss album were released earlier in the year, it would have clearly been the number one record of the year as the sales are real strong.
Also note, that the first six albums all have VINYL LP's available. In the top 20 albums, 14 had VINYL LP's .... Whoopeeee !!! (oddly enough, Kanye West never came out on vinyl)

From Wikipedia: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is an English Soul/Jazz singer from Tottenham, London. She is currently signed to independent music label XL Recordings. At the moment, Adele plays small gigs in venues all over Britain and has so far released only one limited-release single. She has become quite popular on MySpace where you can hear her songs such as Daydreamer, Best For Last, Hometown Glory and Crazy For You. She has already performed Daydreamer on Later With Jools Holland, alongside Paul McCartney and Bjork.
"Hometown Glory", described as a "traffic stopper" in which Adele sings the praises of Tottenham, London, was released on 22 October 2007 as a limited edition 7" vinyl on Jamie T's label Pacemaker Recordings, with B Side 'Best For Last'; plans for general release are unavailable at present.
January 2008 sees the release of 'Chasing Pavements' Adele's second single, which will be released on XL.
Adele went on her first UK Headlining Tour in October, starting in Southampton on the sixth and finishing in London on the twentieth. All nine dates sold out in less than a month. Adele has previously toured with best friend Jack Penate, as well as Jamie T, Raul Midon, Devendra Banhart, Amos Lee and Keren Ann since summer 2006.
